AFTER HURRICANE MARIA: A DISCUSSION ON THE STATE OF PUERTO RICO’S HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS

Doctors for Maria Relief is hosting a panel to discuss and share our experiences, best practices, and insights for providing humanitarian aid and medical relief in Puerto Rico and recommendations on how to overcome those challenges based on our efforts’ recent mission to Puerto Rico. We also extend this invitation to the media and press as we think this is a unique opportunity to highlight the situation on the ground not currently being reported.

Doctor’s for Maria Relief is a humanitarian relief effort that recently returned from a mission to Puerto Rico in October; over 25 doctors and nurses from across the United States traveled to the island to provide much needed medical care to the victims of hurricanes Irma and Maria. Our effort also provided donations of medications, medical supplies, food, and water to victims. The group of volunteers led by Associate Professor Jodie Roure, JD, PhD, Michelle Leung of VICE, and supported by Attorney Betty Lugo, former President of the Puerto Rican Bar Association, will share their observations on the current status of the condition of Puerto Rico. A special thanks to JetBlue for providing transportation for all volunteers.
